When we reached the spice bazaar the dawn started slowly. Obviously, Sigi and Bruno have been here before because they walked unerringly away from us.

We walked into the spice bazaar or officially Egyptian Bazaar. Pure smell and Color therapy.

On the search for oregano oil (since Phyllis told Bruno of the oil we had to look in all ports of the world for this oregano oil... I see already missing my harbor cruise ships...) we were taken by Faruk to this shop: Arifoglu. Somehow it appeared more like a shop for natural or eco food. We found his oregano oil. For my Turkish secretary and house cleaner in Salzgitter, Germany I bought some Turkish delights. Both told me later that it was less sweet than the other and tasted more like fruits and nuts but others. We need to remember this store for our next visit as you can make even the Turks exiting: Number 31. But also Bruno said that he never had better-dried apricots before.

We headed around the corner.

My Turkish secretary said always that apple tea is only available for tourists in Turkey. So I was encouraged to buy a larger stock for our office since I am finally a tourist.

I really would like to have a Döner Kebab. But we were pushed quickly through the bazaar...

But at least I should have a Simit (Sesame ring).

We said good-bye to Faruk and the driver and I was wondering why it could not work so well at the Topkapi-Palace like it worked with the spice bazaar. Maybe it was because there was nothing to smell and see at the Topkapi-Palace... But after Florence and Siena, it was too much culture for me at once.

The first place we saw when we returned onboard was the Blue Lagoon Café.

Everyone was appreciating the hot broth.

And on Day 6 I found out that it could work totally different due to Hermalyn Oliva. So I experienced the nice and friendly service which I use to have with NCL. Many things were right again: address, habits, speed, friendliness - everything fit perfectly together.

I'll be a monkey's uncle in our cabin.

And the monkey was drinking our coffee milk.

Our 2nd order of water was delivered to our cabin.

Unsere 2. Wasserbestellung wurde in die Kabine geliefert.

Ein Gruß vom Hotel Director...

A greeting from the Hotel Director...

I guess it was for Bruno.

Schade.

The programme for the next day. Unfortunately, we had to learn that Hans and Erika would not join. Something was wrong with the pastry at the Topkapi-Palace. Furthermore, it was too cold later in the day and too strenuous. So sad.

So Bruno got his parents some food from the Garden Café.

Just in case something is available when they might be hungry later.

I went to Cagney's. It was not open yet. But the present galley-crew asked me immediately how they could help me. When I asked them to prepare some ginger-mint-infusion for Bruno's parents there was no need to wait very long. They prepared it immediately. A great team: James Fernandes, Maria Chrisostomo, Peter Nacino, Andrean Bae, Krystoffer Villanueva, Prabakar Rengasamy. They were really great: morning for breakfast, sometimes also for lunch and dinner.

So Sigi, Bruno and I had a small bite on board. We got a table at the aft of the Grand Pacific Main Dining Room. But even here you could hear the same order of the songs of the last night. The poor crew... we should pick another restaurant.

Very nice dark grain bread.

Leider schmeckt man keinen Ingwer raus.

I got a chicken broth which you get for the chicken-noodle-soup. But you cannot taste any ginger.

They had meat flap again... Prime-Rib...

Es gibt wieder Fleischlappen... Prime-Rib...

Tonight we just had one waitress just for us Jorjet Bartice. Her assistant was obviously very new and so something happened. Admir saw it and remarked that he was ever challenged to handle the situation. And so he came together with a Serbian colleague to fix the problem. His comment: at home Bosnians and Serbians do not like each other but here on board, we are working hand in hand together to clear the dirt of others. A great attitude. And there was also the sister of a good old friend: Marita Dimeski is the sister of Vasko Dimeski. We have great memories from our NORWEGIAN SPIRIT 2013 voyage.

Sigi refused to pose like King Kameamea because there were so many people around...

We went off the ship again.

The red dot should be much more right... One more dot may fit in between.

But you are walking at least 20 minutes to the Galata-Bridge. And through dark and lonely streets. I did not expect that Istanbul would be so calm in the night. On the way, we found a Turkish fast food restaurant, a few ATMs and it was interesting to see the stairs in rainbow-colors. It would take you towards Taksim-Square (where they had the unrest). But we did not dare to move towards this direction.

At the Galata-Bridge it was illuminated very bright. Many restaurants which were quite calm tried to pull guests into their restaurants. When they noticed that we are from Germany they advertised in German. But as we just had our dinner we did not lie when we said that we were full. In the subway you could find next to the public toilet a charger station for cell phones... i. e. while you see the toilet and have your sitting you could charge meanwhile your cell phone... very smart. We wanted to see the spice bazaar again. Because it was dark and located behind a tram shelter we could not see it immediately. But anyway it was closed at 19.00 hrs.

So we decided to return when we got to Sirkeci train station. I really would like to have a cup of tea at Hafiz Mustafa: a traditional pastry store of 1864 and currently no. 7 of 10,685 restaurants in Istanbul according to Tripadvisor (2014). We made an agreement to buy something salty to go although the sweet was really smiling very nicely.

We wanted to return by tram. So we need to have tokens which are called Jetons. Each of them was 3,00 TRY (2014).

At the machine, you find instructions in multiple languages how to buy them.

You do not get a ticket but a token.

You insert the token and can pass the barrier.

The tram is operated by Istanbul Ulasim.

Die Straßenbahn wird durch Istanbul Ulasim betrieben.

Wir müssen in Richtung Kabatas fahren.

We need to head towards Kabatas.

A schedule was published.

You board at the center platform and leave at the side platform.

The tram also stops at Karaköy but the cruise terminal is next to the Findikli stop. So do not get off too soon.

So endlich angekommen.

So finally we made it.

You need to walk back a little distance but you could already see the funnel of NORWEGIAN JADE.

Kontrolle stattfindet.

And there you have the entrance to the cruise terminal where you have the first checkpoint.

And during the day I could make a few pictures of the ship. Even with some mix feelings, a great first day in Istanbul with many new impressions came to the end. And it will become much better the 2nd day.

Tag.
